Raven Black Platter rises from a magnificent oak log, likely planted in 1918 – the precise year Poland reclaimed its sovereignty – hand-turned into a 45 cm diameter masterpiece from the Vanguard collection. Its Raven Black finish, born of ancient burning and charring, casts a profound shadow that speaks volumes of the space it enters and the steward who claims it, while brighter sapwood edges trace the tree’s outer life in subtle contrast. Exhibited at “100 Objects (2025)” and “Station To Station (2025)”, this platter holds commanding presence as pure sculpture, or as a dramatic stage for jewellery, literature, or a fine bottle of wine.
At Scar & Wonder, work begins with abandoned and reclaimed wood. Each piece is an act of discovery: unpredictability shaping the silhouette, with singular marks – graceful cracks, voids, twists and textures – becoming its character rather than its flaws. Every Scar & Wonder object is one of a kind, finished with natural ancient methods and marked with its own hand-stamped signature. Every piece from the Vanguard collection comes with a unique Book of Origin, documenting its journey from the source of the wood, through the process, to the final details of its finishing. This book marks the beginning of a new life: a place for you to set your intention as its steward and to inscribe the next chapters of its story. Together, we shape value on multiple levels – sentimental, emotional and financial – choosing depth over disposability, and standing for a world in which longevity and meaning outweigh surface glitter and passing trends.
