This Raven Black Fossil is a bold, deeply sculptural object from the Vanguard collection, turned from a magnificent oak stump donated by a friend. With its 40 cm diameter and Raven Black finish, it reads almost like a fragment of geology – a dark, charred fossil extracted from the forest floor and brought into the home.

The wood probably spent around 30 years seasoning in the forest after the tree was cut, allowing time, weather and insects to carve their own story into the material. Absolutely stunning cracks, fissures and wormholes run through the piece, creating a dramatic network of lines and voids that play with light and shadow across the blackened surface.

It can live purely as an art object – a striking, contemplative presence – or serve as a stage for cherished objects, from jewellery to the anchors of your daily rituals.

This piece has already been displayed on numerous exhibitions, carrying with it not only the memory of the forest, but also the echo of that collective encounter.
